Skyline is a car that Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo started production in 1957.

Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo changed its company name to Prince Motor Company in 1961 and merged with Nissan Motor in 1966.

In the meantime, the sale of the skyline has been continued, and the new model is being released as one of the Nissan’s flagship models even today.

NISSAN SKYLINE 2000 TURBO RS

 

The above picture is Nissan Skyline 2000 Turbo RS of die cast miniature car toy “Tomica Premium”, which was released by TOMY COMPANY,LTD of Japan on October 15, 2016.

 

This skyline is the 6th generation skyline called R30 type.

It was called “Newman skyline” because actor Paul Newman served as an image character.

This die cast miniature car toy reproduces the turbo engine-equipped car which was added in 1983.

At that time, detective drama “Western police” was popular in Japan, and specially equipped vehicles (RS-1, RS-2, and RS-3) based on this Skyline 2000 Turbo RS appeared and it became a hot topic.

 

NISSAN SKYLINE 2000 TURBO RS FRONT VIEW

Skyline 2000 Turbo RS that appeared in 1983, the front mask is different from the former type model and the latter term model.

Skyline is a vehicle manufactured and sold by Nissan Motor.

Since Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo started production in 1957, selling continues while repeating model changes.

 

 

◆ The 1st generation SKYLINE (SI type / S2 type) 1957-1963

 

In 1957, Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo started production of the 1st generation Skyline as the flagship model.

The 1.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder OHV engine was carried and the driving method was FR (Front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout).

Fuji Seimitsu Kogyo changed its company name to Prince Motor Company in 1961.

 

 

◆ The 2nd generation SKYLINE (S5 type) 1963-1968

 

The 2nd generation Skyline appeared in 1963.

The engine was a 1.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder OHV same as in the 1st generation, a 4-door sedan and a station wagon were prepared.

In addition, Prince Motor Company merged with Nissan Motor in 1966, Skyline was handed over to Nissan.

 

 

◆ The 3rd generation SKYLINE (C10 type) 1968-1972

 

In August 1968 after the merger with Nissan, the 3rd generation Skyline appeared.

Initially, it was only the 1.5 liter in-line 4-cylinder OHC engine equipped car, but in October GT (GC10 type) equipped with the in-line 6 cylinder engine was added.

In addition, in February 1962, GT-R (PGC10 type) equipped with the 2.0-liter in-line 6-cylinder 4-valve DOHC engine (S20 type) developed by the engineers of former Prince Motor was added.

 

 

◆ The 4th generation SKYLINE (C110 type) 1972-1977

 

The 4th generation Skyline appeared in 1972.

Round type two-light tail lamp was adopted for all grades of 4 door sedan GT series and 2 door hard top.

This round type two-light tail lamp was handed down to the 10th generation R34 type skyline.

 

Hard top 2000 GT-R (KPGC110 type) was also set for this 4th generation Skyline.

However, due to the emission regulation, only 197 units were produced.

 

 

◆ The 5th generation SKYLINE (C210 type) 1977-1981

 

The 5th generation Skyline appeared in 1977.

The catch phrase of the advertisement campaign was “SKYLINE JAPAN”, and the platform was common with Nissan Laurel (C230 type).

There was GT grade equipped with the in-line 6-cylinder engine, but GT-R was not set.

 

 

◆ The 6th generation SKYLINE (R30 type) 1981-1985

 

The 6th generation Skyline appeared in August 1981.

American actor Paul Newman was an advertising character, so R30 type was called “Newman Skyline”.

Initially, it was only 2 grades of “GT” equipped with the in-line 6-cylinder engine and “TI” equipped with the in-line 4-cylinder engine, but “2000RS” (DR30 type) equipped with the in-line 4-cylinder 4 valve DOHC engine (FJ20E type) has been added.

 

In addition, in February 1983, “2000 Turbo RS” (DR30JFT type) equipped with FJ20ET type engine was added.

FJ20ET type engine was FJ20E type equipped with the turbo charger.

The die cast miniature car that is covered here is this Skyline 2000 Turbo RS.

Since FJ20ET type engine generated the best 190PS among the successive models of Skyline, the catch phrase “the strongest Skyline in the history” was used for 2000 Turbo RS.

However, because FJ20ET type was a 4-cylinder engine, it was said that 2000 Turbo RS was failed to name GT-R.

 

Six months after the addition of 2000 Turbo RS, in August, Skyline underwent the minor model change.

2000 Turbo RS also became the latter term model, the front design with thin head lamp and without radiator grill was adopted.

This latter term model was called “Tetsu Kamen (Iron mask)” from its unique design and became popular.

 

In February 1984, Skyline 2000 Turbo Intercooler RS (DR30JFS type) equipped with an air-cooled intercooler was added.

FJ20ET type engine with intercooler generated 205 ps / 6400 rpm, 25.0 kgm / 4400 rpm while it was the gross display.

The 7th generation Skyline appeared in 1985.

A car equipped with an in-line 6-cylinder 4-valve DOHC engine (RB20DET type) for Z31 type Fairlady Z was set up.

 

 

◆ The 8th generation SKYLINE (R32 type) 1989-1994

 

The 8th generation Skyline appeared in 1989.

The R32 type was developed as the most important model of the 901 Movement that Nissan was promoting at that time.

From this model, Skyline GT-R was revived.

However, instead of the FR layout so far, it became a four-wheel drive car equipped with “ATTESA E-TS”.

 

 

◆ The 9th generation SKYLINE (R33 type) 1993-1998

 

The 9th generation Skyline appeared in 1993.

The main engine became 2.5-liter, and the body was also upsized.

R33 type Skyline GT-R was released in January 1995.

 

 

◆ The 10th generation SKYLINE (R34 type) 1998-2001 (GT-R 1999-2002)

 

The 10th generation Skyline appeared in 1998.

All engines were in-line 6-cylinder DOHC, 3 types were prepared: 2.0-liter RB20DE type, 2.5-liter RB25DE type and 2.5-liter-turbo RB25DET type.

Release of R34 type Skyline GT-R began in 1999 but production ended in 2002 according to the 2000 exhaust emission regulation.

 

 

◆ The 11th generation SKYLINE (V35 type) 2001-2006 (COUPE 2003-2007)

 

Development of the 11th generation Skyline was advanced based on the concept car “XVL”.

In 2001, in place of the in-line 6-cylinder engine, it was equipped with V-type 6-cylinder direct injection engine (VQ30DD type, VQ25DD type), and it appeared as the new generation Skyline.

Outside the country, it was sold as Infinity G35 on the sales channel of the upper grade brand “Infinity”.

 

 

◆ The 12th generation SKYLINE (V36 type) 2006-2014 (COUPE 2007-2016, CROSSOVER 2009-2016)

 

The 12th generation Skyline appeared in 2006.

It is equipped with the improved version of the VQ engine (VQ35HR type, VQ25HR type).

4WD (ATTESA E-TS) model was ready in addition to FR layout.

The 13th generation Skyline appeared in February 2014.

Initially, all models were hybrid cars.
