• Introduction of Japanese die cast miniature car toy, Tomica

Mitsuoka Rockstar is an open car released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Mitsuoka Motor in business.

The above picture is Mitsuoka Rockstar of die cast miniature car toy “Tomica series”, which was released by TOMY COMPANY,LTD on October 19, 2019 in Japan.

Mitsuoka Rockstar is the limited model of 200 units produced based on Mazda Roadster.

The red miniature car on the right is Mazda Roadster of Tomica No. 26.

The overall form is similar.

However, the common part of the body is only the cabin, and the front and back parts are Mitsuoka’s complete original bodies.

MITSUOKA ROCKSTAR FRONT VIEWThe long front nose of Mitsuoka Rockstar is equipped with the navy-blue color cloisonne emblem.

In addition, the L-shaped shining plating bumper is mounted in front of the nose, and a styling reminiscent of a Chevrolet Corvette is adopted.

This miniature car reproduces the cloisonne emblem of fine design to a respectable level by printing.

On the other hand, the same silver paint is used for the plating bumper and the round headlight part, so it does not have a powerful feeling like the actual car.

However, the dark gray front lip spoiler underneath it is well reproduced with the under part.

MITSUOKA ROCKSTAR SIDE VIEWThe plating under panel with slits is installed at the bottom of the door of Mitsuoka Rockstar.

This miniature car reproduces the atmosphere of the actual car by painting the side of the slit-shaped under parts in silver.

MITSUOKA ROCKSTAR INTERIORSome of Tomica models have gimmicks such as opening doors and hoods.

This die-cast miniature car can detach the convertible top.

The finish of the interior is a moderate level, but the skin design of the seat and the shape of the instrument panel including the central monitor are reproduced neatly.

MITSUOKA ROCKSTAR REAR VIEWThis miniature car reproduces the elaborate shape of the rear part by the shape of die-casting.

However, the center emblem that represents the 50th anniversary of its foundation is lacking in texture because it is only finished by silver painting.

The Rock Star emblem on the right is accurately reproduced by printing.

The round 4-light type rear combination LED lamps are finished with only red paint, without the center winker part being reproduced.

It seems a little small because the ring part is not painted in silver.

The scale of this die-cast miniature car is 1/60, and the actual size is about 72mm.

Mitsuoka Rockstar is an open car released by Mitsuoka Motor to commemorate its 50th anniversary.

It is a limited production model of 200 units based on Mazda Roadster and was announced on November 29, 2018.

50 units were for customers of Mitsuoka Motor, and the remaining 150 units were for general customers, and were sold out in less than 4 months from the start of the order.

50 units are expected to be produced and shipped in 2019, and 75 units each are planned to be produced in 2020 and 2021.

Mitsuoka Rockstar adopts the design reminiscent of the second-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray called “C2.”

However, it is not based on the Corvette, but the originality and history of Mitsuoka Motor becomes the design concept.

The overhang is extended to realize the elegant form.

The overall length is 430mm longer and the overall width is 35mm wider compared with Mazda Roadster.

Mitsuoka Rockstar are available in 6 body colors, all of which contain American place names.

“Los Angeles Blue” “Chicago Red” “New York Black”

“Cisco Orange” “Washington White” “Arizona Yellow”

Initially, Mitsuoka Rockstar was being developed under the name “Type California”.

However, this car’s designer who watched the Oldies Rock concert was impressed by the spectators enjoying freedom and renamed to Rockstar in order to communicate his mind to the car owners.
