    【About actual FERRARI 512BB】

Ferrari 512BB was launched in 1976 as a successor model of 365GT4 / BB.

365GTB / 4BB was rival with the Lamborghini Countach LP400 also equipped with the V-type 12-cylinder engine.

The nominal maximum speed of Countach LP400 was 300 km / h.

Meanwhile, the nominal maximum speed of 365GT4 / BB was 302 km / h outweighing LP400.

The minor changed model of 365GT4 / BB to comply with the exhaust gas regulation conducted in 1976 was 512BB.

The biggest change point was the engine, which increased the displacement by about 600 cc to compensate for power down.

The maximum output decreased by 20 horsepower, but the maximum torque was up and the drivability at the low speed range also improved.

Besides, FRP and magnesium parts were replaced with steel and aluminum for cost reduction, so the vehicle weight exceeded 1.5 tons.

Even so, in order to defend the title of “The world’s fastest car on the public road”, 512BB also maintained the nominal maximum speed of 302 km / h.

The elegant style of 365GT4 / BB and 512BB was created by Pininfarina and Scaglietti.

The basic design is the same, but the front lip spoiler is added for 512BB.

Also, the NACA duct for brake cooling is provided in front of the rear tire.

512 of the car name represents the 5.0-liter’s engine displacement and 12 cylinders.

On the other hand, BB is abbreviation of Berlinetta Boxer, Berlinetta stands for a coupe body, Boxer for a horizontally opposed engine.

However, what actually was installed in 512BB was a V-type engine with a bank angle of 180 degrees.

512BB underwent the minor change in 1981 and shifted to 512BBi equipped with K-Jetronic injection of Bosch.

929 units of 512BB and 1007 units of 512BBi were produced.
